Case study:
SAVE THE WAVES -
Doughmore Beach, County Claire, Ireland
An exclusive resort threatens 3 miles of pristine prehistoric coastline with a coastal defense wall, so they can protect their golf course from erosion.
Bad news
After years of campaigning by the Save The Waves Coalition and Friends of the Irish Environment, the resort wins the right to build the wall.
Save The Waves appeals - and a final decision is to be made by An Bord Pleanála -Ireland’s National Planning Appeal Board.
Good news
Patagonia steps in to fund a last ditched attempt to save the beach from needless development and the destruction of the natural beach and surf.
SINGLE-MIND is asked to clearly communicate the irreparable social and environmental damage the wall will cause if built. And make sure An Bord Pleanála hears it.
Seek clarity
Save The Waves executives and the founder of Friends of the Irish Environment work through the SINGLE-MIND proprietary process.
A simple, elegant but radical solution
SINGLE-MIND writes, produces and directs an emotionally impactful short film that communicates the scientific facts, environmental consequences and community upheaval that will unfold if the wall is built.
The story is told with the help of local families, surfers, scientists and campaigners and filmed with the help of Irish fimmakers - and Moby(!).
A global release
Save The Waves works with their PR agents to release the film globally as well as gaining coverage in local, national and international press outlets.
Our real target (and a cunning slight of hand)
Saturated global media attention guaranteed that the 3 panel members of An Bord Pleanála -Ireland’s National Planning Appeal Board heard the truth.
An Bord Pleanála voted to overturn the earlier decision to approve construction of the sea wall - at the same time protecting Doughmore Beach from damaging coastal development forever.
